Dr Manolis Tsiknakis - Short CV
Dr Tsiknakis received a B.Eng. degree in Electric and Electronic Engineering, in 1983, an M.Sc. degree in Microprocessor Engineering, in 1985, and a Ph.D. degree in Systems Engineering from the University of Bradford, Bradford, U.K., in 1989. He worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Bradford and at the Institute of Computer Science of the Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas (FORTH/ICS) during 1990 and 1991. From August 1992 until January 2012 he worked as a Researcher (initially as an Associate Researcher and from 2002 onwards as a Principal Researcher) at FORTH/ICS. Since February of 2012 he holds the position of Professor of Biomedical Informatics at the Technological Educational Institute of Crete. He is the Head of the Biomedical Informatics and eHealth lab (www.bmi.teicrete.gr), which is part of the Laboratory of Applied and inTeractIve Computing (LATICe) (www.teicrete.gr/el/tei/14498) of TEI Crete. Additionally he is an affiliate researcher at the Computational Medicine Laboratory of FORTH/ICS (www.ics.forth.gr/cbml/index_main.php?l=e&c=200).
Dr Tsiknakis has been the Scientific Coordinator and/or Principal Investigator in numerous EU and nationally funded research projects.
He is an Associate Editor of the ΙΕΕΕ Journal of Biomedical and Health Informatics (IF 2016: 3,451). He has been the lead Guest Editor of the IEEE Journal of Biomedical and Health Informatics and Journal of Biomedical Informatics (IF 2016: 2,753) and has been the organizer of several special sessions in major international conferences of his scientific area. He has been a member of the organizing committee and/or program committee in a series of scientific conferences. Dr Tsiknakis is a regular reviewer in several, recognized international scientific journals in his scientific area. He is often a reviewer of research proposals for the EU and the research funding organizations of countries such as France, Luxembourg, Russia, Finland and Ireland. He has published extensively - over 250 papers in refereed scientific journals and conferences (h index = 26, citations = 2353, https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=Khj_WYgAAAAJ&hl=el).
His current research interests include biomedical infromatics and engineering, clinical decision support systems, smart ehealth and mHealth services, affective computing, and smart living environments, focusing on issues related to the automatic recognition of activities of daily life (ADLs) and behavioral modeling.
