Computer Engineering
Computer engineering (CE) as an academic field is best viewed as a combination of computer science and electrical engineering. Its body of knowledge embodies the science and technology of design, construction, implementation, testing and maintenance of software and hardware components of modern computing systems and computer-controlled equipment.
Software Engineering
The Software Engineering direction of the Informatics Engineering Department includes core and elective courses which aim for the training of students in Software Engineering. The main objective of the curriculum of this direction is to educate, familiarize and specialize its students in a range of disciplines related to the lifecycle of software systems.
Subprograms
The Department of Informatics Engineering offers the following three subprograms:
Network Engineering
The Network Engineering specialisation programme at the Informatics Engineering department of TEI of Crete focuses on the study, analysis, design, synthesis and implementation of networked audiovisual services and applications, by delving into the architectural and technological principles of a) telecommunication systems and converged services platforms, b) multimedia creation, manipulation and delivery over heterogeneous infrastructures, and c) network programming, management and administration for guaranteed QoS provision.

Computer Vision
- Introduction
- Cameras and color: pinhole camera, perspective model, orthographic projection model, aperture, field of view, lenses, filters, color formation, color spaces.
- Spatial filters: convolution, average filter, gauss filter, median filter.
- Morphological filters: Erosion, dilation, opening, closing.
- Edge detection: edge definition, gradient, noise, Sobel filters, Prewitt filters, Roberts filter, noise attenuation, Laplacian of Gaussian, Canny algorithm.
- Corner detection, Harris corner detector.
- Blobs, SIFT features.
