The 4-year programme consists of 7 semesters plus the practicum (8th semester).
In order to acquire the social work degree students have to successfully complete 39 courses, plus the practicum and a dissertation.
Year 1 (semesters 1 and 2) is designed to provide academic knowledge on Social Sciences related to Social Work; core taught modules are on the subjects of Sociology, Psychology, Social Policy, Law, Informatics and introductory Social Work courses.
In years 2, 3 and 4 (semesters 3-7) students study modules on Social Work Theory and Methods, Social Services Administration, Social Policy/ Social Planning, Social Research.
Practice learning takes place from the 4th to the 7th semester (9 hours per week in the 4th semester, 8 hours per week in the 5th semester, 12 hours a week in the 6th semester and 12 hours in the 7thsemester).
During their practice placement in social work agencies students learn from the experiential content of working with particular case materials. They are guided and assessed by practice teachers during weekly practice tutorials.
The last (8th) semester practicum offers students the opportunity to integrate theory and practice while placed in social work agencies for a whole semester.
