Ensuring and improving quality in Higher Education is an issue that demands the attention of every member state and every Institute of Higher Education in the European Union.
The evaluation consists in the systematic, factual and detailed assessment, presentation and recording of the work done by the Institutes of Higher Education using objective criteria, and in the critical analysis and detection of any possible weaknesses and deviations from their academic role and goals, as described in details in the provisions of the law in force.
The structuring of a European higher education area and the policy of developing Higher Education Institutes in Europe require the existence of procedures and systems that ensure their quality.
In Greece, the evaluation of the Higher Education Institutes and its implementation procedures were defined by Law No 3374/2005. Since then, the managing committees of the TEI of Crete have been extremely careful in matters that ensure and improve the quality of the work produced by the Institute. The goal is to engage everyone in writing down the work that has been completed and to face any problems that arise regarding the role and the goals of the TEI in relation to the provision of quality services towards students and society.
The criteria and the evaluation indicators are determined according to the following components:
- Quality of teaching work
- Quality of research work
- Quality of study programmes
- Quality of the rest provided services (administrative services, student care services, ICT infrastructure, management transparency, etc.)
We consider evaluation to be a means of strategic planning and development for the TEI, plus a tool that ensures the quality of studies and services offered to our students.
