The main evaluation bodies responsible for the evaluation procedures are the Hellenic Quality Assurance and Accreditation Agency (HQA) at national level and the Quality Assurance Unit (QAU) at School level, plus the Internal Evaluation Groups (IEGs) of each Department.
The HQA is an independent institutional body, administratively autonomous, which is supervised by the Minister of Education, Lifelong Learning and Religious Affairs for the legitimacy of its actions. Its goal is to support the Greek Higher Education Institutes in their effort to complete the necessary procedure that aims at ensuring and improving the quality of the provided work, guaranteeing the transparency of the procedure, promoting research in relevant matters and notifying the State and the Institutes of the modern international trends and changes in this field. The HQA plans, coordinates and supports the evaluation procedures of the Higher Education Institutes; it is also responsible, among its numerous duties, for standardising, specializing and revising the form of the evaluation reports of the Higher Education Institutes plus the evaluation criteria and indicators through the use of guidelines and standards.
